This is the Portrait of Japan with two things that mostly represent Japan carrying the "Hinomaru" on back, which is the national flag of Japan, base white with a large red disc (representing the sun) in the center. The fish 'Tai' is regarded as a good luck fish in Japan. Also the Japanese consider red (aka) as an auspicious color. Clothing marked with the family crest is called montsuki, witch literally means "an object with a crest". A crested haori and hakama was pur over a crested kimono as a formal dress.
